Robert Leroy Foster, 85, of Seymour passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016, at Schneck Medical Center.

Born Sept. 26, 1930, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Ermel and Pansy Olverson Foster. On Feb. 11, 1956, in Austin, he married Delores Lorraine Barnes Foster of Seymour. She survives.

Robert obtained his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Illinois and was always an avid Illini fan. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and was a scout coordinator for many years.

Robert served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Bataan during the Korean War and retired as a lieutenant commander after a 30-year career. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925 and a member of the National Rifle Association and the NMLRA. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, boating and all sports.

Other survivors include a daughter, Linda (Ervin) Oakes of Crothersville; sons, Michael (Cindy) Foster of Greenwood, Eric (Mary Kay) Foster of Martinsville and Steven (Charity) Foster of Southport; sister-in-law, Anita Rayner of Crothersville; eight grandchildren, Whitney, Corey, Benjamin, Delaney, Lindsey, Logan, Nicole and Alexis; and two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Riley.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery with the American Legion Honor Guard conducting military honors.

Visitation will be from noon until time of service Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Salvation Army or donor’s choice of charity.
