Robert Hehman, 87, of Brownstown died at 6:50 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2016, at Hoosier Christian Village. He had been ill for one and a half years.

Born Aug. 15, 1928, in Jackson County, he was the son of George Fredrick Hehman and Elizabeth White Hehman, both of whom preceded him in death. He lived all of his life in Jackson County. On Feb. 14, 1953, in Brownstown, he married Juanita Joan Royse Hehman, who preceded him in death Nov. 21, 2012.

Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He worked at the telephone company, was a janitor at Brownstown Central High School, a truck driver, worked at the water company and was the CEO of Hehman Bottle Gas. One of Bob’s greatest joys in life was watching and being involved in any kind of racing.

Survivors include two sons, Roger (Peggy) Hehman and Jeffrey A. (Sandy) Hehman, both of Brownstown; grandchildren, Ryan and Lindsay Hehman, Melanie Hehman, Jason and Carla Hehman, Jasmine Hehman and Jamison Hehman; numerous great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Jack Fredrick Hehman; three brothers, Charles Hehman, Herbert “Whitey” Hehman and Irvin “Shorty” Hehman; and a sister, Norma Jean Lawson.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Patterson officiating. Burial with full military graveside rites will take place at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from noon until time of service Friday.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Brownstown Speedway Handicap Section Improvement.
