Otte

The 58th annual reunion of the descendants of the late John and Caroline Mellenbruch Otte was conducted July 17 in the fellowship hall at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers.

The families of Henry Otte, born Feb. 25, 1880, served as hosts.

After a pitch-in lunch, President Leland Otte called the meeting to order.

There were 34 in attendance. Bertha Otte was the oldest at age 93, while some drove 85 miles to attend. Those who served in the military were thanked.

Secretary Ruth Ann Rust Hendrix read the minutes from last year’s meeting. Marcia Monroe Rust gave the treasurer’s report.

Carmen Herkamp gave the ancestor and family history update. Living descendants from Marie are 143, Henry has 125, Fred has 142, Frank has 26 and George has 86. A moment of silence was conducted for those who passed away during the last year.

After a collection, it was voted to give $50 to St. Paul for the use of the fellowship hall. Descendants of the Mellenbruch family in Kansas plan to purchase a new tombstone for Conrad Mellenbruch, so it was voted to give $100 toward the project. Bertha Otte recited a poem she learned in elementary school. Twenty questions were asked with prizes to various people.

The next reunion will be July 16, 2017, with the Fred Otte family hosting. Alvin Otte will be the chairman. The meeting closed with the singing of the first and fourth verses of the song “God Be with You Till We Meet Again.”
