Three motorcyclists from Seymour were injured Friday when they were involved in a crash with a car on State Road 46 about five miles west of Columbus, police said.

Marcus Stockhover, 73, Connie Stockhover, 65, and Daniel Lakins, 68, were treated and taken to Columbus Regional Health after the wreck that also involved a car driven by Corrie McGuckin, 42, of Columbus, according to a news release from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.

County Officer Terrance Holderness, who responded to the crash, said when he arrived, he found a maroon tricycle-style motorcycle sitting in the eastbound lane of State Road 58 at County Road 525W. Both Stockhovers were lying on the ground.

Holderness said he also found a green cruiser motorcycle lying on its side at the southeast corner of the intersection, and Lakins was sitting on the ground near it. McGuckin and her husband, Daniel, were in their vehicle stopped at the stop sign on County Road 525W.

According to witnesses, the Stockhovers and Lakins were driving east on State Road 46 with the Stockhovers in front. Marcus Stockhover slowed to turn southbound onto County Road 525W.

When Lakins realized Marcus Stockhover was slowing down, he swerved to avoid a collision but struck Stockhover’s motorcycle on the right side. That forced it off to the right, where it hit the front end of the McGuckin vehicle, Holderness said.

The McGukins were not injured.

County Officer Greg Duke and county Reserve Officer Jim Prigden assisted, while Columbus police officers helped with traffic control.
