All Seasons Garden Club

A garden party was the theme when All Seasons Garden Club met Aug. 1 at the country home of Shirley Lewis.

Special programs were made by Lewis with the agenda for the evening: “Grab a sandwich, tour the gardens, business meeting and program and dessert bar.”

Special guests at the meeting were Jeanna Eppley, Karen VonDielingen and Mildred and Jeannie Fennenberg.

Eppley, agriculture teacher and FFA sponsor at Seymour High School, gave an informal talk about the community gardens at Margaret R. Brown Elementary School and Freeman Field as well as projects at the high school greenhouse.

Eppley encourages these FFA projects of community service that not only give students class credit, but also a sense of pride in giving back to the community.

“Name that garden,” a game created by cohostess Sandy Kovener, was enjoyed by all. A flamed violet was given to Connie Lovins, who won the game. She identified the most gardens of club members from pictures taken by Kovener.

Favors for the evening were floral fans. Centerpieces of fresh garden bouquets were won by Nita Bridges, Cathy Rush, Brenda Turner and VonDielingen.

All Seasons Garden Club will meet Sept. 12 at the home of Jeanette Chastain. Peggy Broshears is cohostess.
