Braves down Musketeers

PEKIN

The Brownstown Central volleyball team opened their 2016 campaign with a 25-12, 25-18, 25-16 win Tuesday against Mid-Southern Conference foe Eastern (Pekin).

Grace Jaynes led the Braves attack, going 23-for-26 while pounding 12 kills. The Braves tallied 37 kills.

Richayla Huff made all 20 serve attempts with two aces while Heidi Booher went 17-for-21 with seven aces.

The Braves host Bloomington North on Thursday for their first home match.

Tigers drop opener

CROTHERSVILLE

Crothersville fell to Southern Athletic Conference opponent Borden 25-14, 25-22, 25-17 on Tuesday in their home and season opener.

The Tigers’ Nikki Hickman made all nine of her hits with five kills, Lacey Hall went 11-for-12 with four kills and Maddie Riley finished 13-for-16 with three kills.

The Tigers went 44-for-52 serving with one ace.

The Tigers are off until Monday when they host West Washington.

GIRLS GOLF

Owls third in tri-meet

FLOYDS KNOBS

Seymour finished third in a tri-meet with Bedford North Lawrence and Floyd Central on Tuesday at Valley View Golf Club.

Floyd Central won the event with a 163. Bedford North Lawrence scored 172 and Seymour totaled 211.

The Highlanders’ Lauren Decker claimed medalist honors with an even-par 36.

Senior Hannah Thompson led Seymour with a 48.

Andrea Axsom shot 52, Bridget Marshall 56, Bailey Goben 59, Maddie Wisler and Jenna Ebler 55 for the Owls.
