Braves win opener

BROWNSTOWN

The Brownstown Central boys tennis team relied on solid doubles play to pick up a 3-2 win over Mid-Southern Conference foe North Harrison on Thursday.

At No. 1 doubles, Sy Zickler and Ethan Carlin — who return to the same position as 2015 — defeated Cameron Higdon and Eldon Engleman 6-3, 6-1.

In the No. 2 doubles spot, Gunnar Zickler and Ethan Wischmeier bested Ben Book and Zack Outcalt 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a marathon match.

The lone singles win came at No. 2, with Sam Hoff defeating Ben Davis 6-1, 6-0.

Luke Cobb fell to Ryan Dones 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Cameron Voyles won 6-2, 6-3 over Max McClure at No. 3 singles to score the Panthers’ points.

On Monday, the Braves (1-0, 1-0 MSC) will travel to Silver Creek for another conference matchup.

VOLLEYBALL

Cougars top Southwestern

Trinity Lutheran had an easy time improving to 2-0 on the young season with a 25-11, 25-11, 25-12 win over Southwestern (Shelby) in the Bollinger Athletic Complex on Thursday night.

The Cougars improved at the serving line over their first match by going 71 of 73 with nine aces. Lexi Schneider was 21-for-21 with two aces and Courtney Barker was 18-for-18 with two aces.

Trinity had 30 attack kills with Chloe Criswell leading the team with eight and Hailley Peters had six.

Trinity will host Waldron on Tuesday night.
