James Roger Patton, 70, of Bedford died at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at IU Health Bloomington.

Born Jan. 5, 1946, in Orange County, he was the son of James N. Patton, who preceded him in death, and Elzora Piatt Brown, who survives in Brownstown. On June 8, 1985, he married Donna Smallwood, who also survives.

He retired as a tool and die maker with General Motors Co. after 30 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the United States Air Force. He was also of the Christian faith and a member of Gillen Post 33 American Legion.

Other survivors include three daughters, Cindy M. Augspurg of Medora, Julie Benton of Norman and Christina White of Bedford; five grandchildren, Annette Slate, Austin Benton, Blake Benton, Brandon White and Jasmine White; three sisters, Linda (Victor) Greenwell of Spencer, Kay (Joe) Phillips of Brownstown and Teri Wheeler of Missouri; five brothers, Michael (Nancy) Patton of Bloomington, Steve (Tami) Patton of Illinois, Ken (Sherrie) Patton of Virginia, Kevin (Mary) Patton of Medora and Daniel (Lisa) Patton of Lafayette; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Patton of Brownstown; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Phil Patton.

The funeral service was Sunday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Michael Lee Patton officiating.
