Marcus Barnard, 78, of Norman passed away at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at his residence.

Born May 19, 1938, in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, he was the son of Samuel and Vivian C. Osborne Barnard, both of whom preceded him in death. On May 18, 1958, he married Phyllis Ann Kirts, who survives.

Marcus had worked at Rockwell Reliance in Columbus most of his life. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour and a former member of Hoosier Beemers Motorcycle Club. He was a published poet and a great storyteller who was always joking. He loved to grow flowers, and he enjoyed woodworking. He loved his Appalachian heritage and bluegrass music, but most of all, he loved all of his family.

Besides his wife, survivors include children, Ray (Sonja) Barnard, Vivian (Dave) Begley and Marcia (Greg) Hatton; sisters, Ruth Hillenburg, Nelson Brittain and Sarah Wooldridge; 10 grandchildren, Duane (Amber) Barnard, Marcus (Amanda) Barnard II, Christopher Barnard, Jennifer (Shawn) Darlage Wilson, Kellie Anne (Adam) Darlage Walters, Matthew William Begley, Michael (Brenda) Begley, Ryan (Jenni Livers) Hatton, Tyler Hatton and Bryce Hatton; and nine great-grandchildren, Charisma Barnard, Logan Barnard, Landon Barnard, Artema Barnard, Marcus Barnard III, Haley Wilson, Ayden Shepherd, Lyncoln Walters and Kingston Begley.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Oakley Barnard, Emmitt Barnard and Hershall Barnard; two sisters, Nila Mize and Anna Belle Taylor; and a great-grandson, Christopher John Able Barnard.

The funeral service will be at 4 p.m. today at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home in Brownstown with Father Dan Staublin officiating.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until time of service today.

Cremation will follow the funeral service.

Memorials may be given to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or St. Ambrose Catholic School in Seymour.
