Janet Fields of Seymour received the 2016 Hoosier Hospitality Award for outstanding contributions to the tourism industry during a ceremony Aug. 19 at the Indiana State Fair.

Fields oversees the housekeeping staff at Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Seymour.

The person who nominated Fields said she never ceases to go above and beyond to make the hotel a hospitable place, according to a news release from the Indiana Office of Tourism Development.

“One example of her penchant for great hospitality was demonstrated when she learned that a guest was on a restrictive diet of fruits and vegetables,” the person wrote. “A delivery mistake left the hotel short on those items. Fields went to the market and bought fresh fruit and took it to the guest’s room. Her consistent dedication to excellent service is one of the reasons why the housekeeping staff receives rave reviews from guests and consistently wins company awards for outstanding performance.”

Eighteen representatives of Indiana’s travel, tourism and hospitality industry earned the Hoosier Hospitality Award for their high level of service in tourism-related jobs at hotels, restaurants, attractions and other destinations.

Nominations for Hoosier Hospitality Awards are submitted by community members and destination patrons. Nominations are reviewed, and winners are selected by the Indiana Office of Tourism Development. Outstanding service is a major factor in determining whether a person returns to an individual business or destination.
