Lucinda Graessle Hillmer, 66, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016.

Born in Seymour, she was the daughter of George G. Graessle II and Doris Droege Graessle.

She graduated from Seymour High School in 1968 and attended Indiana University.

Lu was a civil servant and devoted community member. She was a member of the Speedway Town Council for many years, serving as president for some of those years. She was an integral member of the Speedway Redevelopment Committee and the Main Street revitalization. She was employed as a payroll specialist for the state of Indiana, city of Indianapolis and town of Speedway.

Lu loved the town of Speedway, Bobby Knight, playing cards, traveling to the beach, loving on her cats and telling stories with friends and family. She never met a stranger, and her boisterous laugh brought life to a room, creating memories for everyone she knew. Probably her favorite title in recent years was that of “Mimi” to her two grandchildren, who absolutely adored her.

Survivors include her mother, Doris Droege Graessle; brothers, George G. (Jane) Graessle III and Frederick H. (Pamela) Graessle; daughter, Allyson (Travis) Smith; grandchildren, Andrew Graessle Smith and Olivia Ann Smith; and a number of loving nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Voss Funeral Service in Seymour. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Conkle Funeral Home in Speedway and from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at Voss Funeral Service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association at donatenow.heart.org or the Dr. Bud Scholarship at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.
