Wildlife refuge marks 50th anniversary

The Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge, located at 12985 E. U.S. 50, in Seymour, will celebrate its 50th anniversary Sept. 17.

The celebration begins at 7:30 a.m. with a guided bird walk.

A program begins at 10 a.m. near the visitor center. Special guests will be featured along with former landowners and others.

Lunch and cake will be served.

From noon to 3 p.m., Passport to Nature will take place with guests being encouraged to visit each of the six stations on the passport. Goodies will be passed out at each location, and those getting their passport stamped at each location will receive a discount at the refuge bookstore.

A commemorative booklet that looks back on 50 years of conservation will be given to those in attendance. Other special events are planned throughout the day.
