Doris Ida Ayers, 100, of Brownstown passed away at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, at Hoosier Christian Village.

Born Jan. 20, 1916, in Jackson County, she was a daughter of George and Ethel Bell Laraway, both of whom preceded her in death. On Nov. 19, 1938, she married Everett Ayers, and he preceded her in death in 1996.

Doris graduated from Freetown High School in 1934. She was a housewife who had worked for Morgan Packing Company, Indiana Telephone Co. and the Brownstown school system. She was a member of Brownstown United Methodist Church where she had been active in United Methodist Women and also the former Pleasant Grove Willing Workers.

Survivors include children, Belva Ayers, Paul (Linda) Ayers, Ruth (Raymond) Schroer, Earl (Arlene) Ayers and Robert “Bob” (Terry) Ayers; two sisters in-law, Dorothy and Neva Laraway; 11 grandchildren, Melissa (Ron) Bales, Amanda (Dale) Cull, Kevin Kruse, Eric (Grace) Kruse, Curtis (Courtney) Kruse, Steven Ayers, Christine Edwards, Jason Ayers, Jennifer (Jim) Merrifield, Blaze Ayers and Samuel Ayers; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Carl; three sisters; and three brothers.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Brownstown United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Robertson Cemetery at Honeytown.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home Brownstown and from 9 a.m until time of service Friday.

Memorials may be given to Brownstown United Methodist Church or the Hoosier Christian Village Auxiliary.
