The 23rd biannual reunion of the descendants of the late Henry and Mary Newkirk Schafstall was Aug. 7 in the fellowship hall at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers.

The families of the late Lillian Schafstall Rust, born Feb. 25, 1880, were hosts.

After a pitch-in lunch, Ruth Ann Hendrix called the meeting to order. There were 33 people in attendance.

Questions were asked, and prizes were awarded. Bertha Otte was the oldest at age 93, and the youngest was Ethan Rust. Two people, Olga Otte and Sylvia Rust, have climbed in the Alps. There are seven living cousins — Carol Rust Kastner, Vera Rust Hoevener Monroe, Chester (Linda) Rust, Waldron Rust, Bertha Otte, Glenna Kruse Otte and Lucille Kruse Barksdale.

After a collection, it was voted to give $50 to St. Paul for the use of the fellowship hall and $40 to Anchor House Family Assistance Center.

After some discussion, it was decided that the next reunion will be Aug. 5, 2018, with the Lillian Schafstall Rust family hosting.
