Athletes of the week – Sept. 8

0

Alan Perry, Seymour football, junior

Accomplishments this past week: Five total touchdowns against Columbus East with more than 200 yards total offense.

How were you able to perform to your fullest potential this past week?

“I did not play very well the first two weeks of the season, so that really motivated me to come out and perform well against a good team.”

What did you do well?

“I just focused on controlling the ball and not doing anything too risky while on offense. I wanted to slow the pace down and focus on giving us a chance to score every time we touched the ball.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“I tried to approach the game as a new season, almost. I wanted to turn the page after not performing well the first two weeks, so I really buckled and made it a point to take care of the football.”

If you could travel anywhere and why?

I would travel to Oakland, California, to watch a Warriors game at Oracle Arena before the team moves to a new location. I want to see how hyped the crowd gets for the best team in the league.

Athletics goal (current or future)?

“A current athletic goal of mine would be to win a sectional championship in at least one of the three sports I play. A future athletic goal of mine would be to play Division I baseball.”

Marie Lenart, Seymour soccer, senior

Accomplishments this past week:

“This last weekend we had a tournament in Bloomington where we secured two wins and a tie. I scored 3 out of the 7 goals made and had an assist. We also had a win against Jeffersonville, with one goal.”

How were you able to perform to your fullest potential this past week?

“I am able to perform at my fullest potential because not only the hours spent on the field practicing, but also because of my team and the teamwork we possess on the field.”

What did you do well?

“I always try my best to bring energy and movement on the field, no matter what team we are playing.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“It all begins the morning of the game, not just with warm-ups. From the moment you wake up, you have to have the mentality of being ready to play. I don’t do anything physically, but mentally, as Troy Bolton says, “Ya gotta get your head in the game.”
