A 20-month-old who nearly drowned Thursday in an above-ground pool at her Seymour home remains hospitalized in Louisville.

According to a report from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Sabrina Jacobson was pulled from the pool in the 7400 block of North U.S. 31 by Tina Anderson, who had been watching the girl and her 5-year-old brother.

Anderson tried to administer CPR to the child, although she had never done so before, Lt. Andy Wayman said.

John Long, an off-duty Brownstown police officer who was about a half-mile away, responded and administered rescue breaths to the child until an ambulance crew could arrive, Wayman said.

He said Anderson told police she had been working outside in the yard and watching the kids, and when she looked up, the girl was gone. That’s when she looked in the pool.
