Dringenburg receives honor

Franklin College’s Karen Dringenburg was named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference player of the week for women’s tennis.

Dringenburg, the 2015 HCAC Freshman of the Year, posted an 8-0 record in singles and doubles play to open the 2016 tennis campaign.

The sophomore teamed with teammate Holyn Eldridge for seven triumphs, six coming on the No. 1 court in a doubles tournament last Saturday.

The duo dropped only three games to win the No. 1 doubles match against IU-East in a dual match last Thursday.

Dringenburg also won a hard-fought three-set No. 1 singles match against IU-East.

Barker has strong week

Indiana University Southeast senior Hannah Barker was named the River States Conference Setter of the Week.

Barker of Seymour averaged 9.3 assists per set in the five matches played by IU Southeast last week.

She did more than just facilitate the attack as she averaged a kill per set and had an attack percentage of .244.

Barker was also a factor defensively, finishing the week with 29 total digs.

Lucas shines at WKU

Western Kentucky University’s Jessica Lucas was named Conference USA Setter of the Week.

The C-USA Preseason Player of the Year and Seymour native continued her superb junior season as she averaged a C-USA best 13.20 assists per set over the weekend.

The setter averages 13.19 assists per set on the season, which also leads all C-USA.

She helped the No. 23 Toppers to its first .500+ hitting percentage performance since the 2013 season in Saturday’s victory against Saint Louis University.
