ATLANTA — Authorities with Atlanta’s transit agency say one of its passenger trains collided with a man who was on the tracks who later died of his injuries.
Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority spokeswoman Alisa Jackson says the man, whose name wasn’t released, was struck by the train Wednesday morning near the Candler Park station.
Authorities said he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta with head and arm injuries and was later pronounced dead.
Jackson tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://on-ajc.com/2cwJVMX ) that MARTA authorities were not yet sure why the man was on the tracks when the train approached.
Few other details were immediately available.
MARTA said in an alert to passengers that “extensive delays” were occurring on the blue/green line, which runs east and west through the city.
