MADISON, Wis. — Deputies have arrested a Wisconsin school bus driver suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol while he had a child on board.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office says people called 911 shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday to report a Badger Bus school bus operating erratically. Callers said the bus driver was speeding, weaving on the road, running yellow traffic lights and crossing the center line, nearly striking an oncoming vehicle.
Deputies stopped the bus in the Town of Verona. The driver, a 25-year-old man from Verona, denied using drugs or alcohol. Authorities say he failed field sobriety tests and was arrested.
The sheriff’s office says a 10-year-old boy was on the bus. The driver was taken to a hospital for a blood draw and booked into jail.
