CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say that one man is dead and another has been charged with murder in a shooting in north Charlotte.

Lt. Andy Harris of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police says that officers responded to the scene about 10:30 Friday morning and found the victim, 35-year-old Jonathan Vereen, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say that 36-year-old Jeffvory Hughey is charged with first degree murder, possession of firearm by a felon and shooting into an occupied property.

Hughey was in custody and it was not immediately known if he had an attorney.
