MIDDLETOWN, N.J. — A New Jersey driver who struck and killed a teenage girl last year has pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Toni Marletta also pleaded guilty Friday to child endangerment charges.

Monmouth County prosecutors say the 50-year-old Middletown resident faces up to seven years in prison when she’s sentenced Dec. 2.

The charges stem from a July 2015 accident that occurred in Middletown.

Prosecutors say Marletta was driving with three 16-year-old girls in her car when she hit 15-year-old Marissa Procopio. The Atlantic Highlands teen died the next day at a hospital.

Authorities say Marletta’s vehicle was found a few hours after the accident occurred and had damage consistent with the collision. Her attorney said Friday that she panicked and fled because her car insurance had lapsed.
