FRESNO, Calif. — Police say two toddlers reported missing by their family in central California were found in their next door neighbor’s pool, where they drowned. No foul play is suspected.

Fresno Police Lt. Joe Gomez says the 2-year-old girl and 3-year-ol boy were being watched by their great-grandmother when they went missing Monday.

Gomez says officers called to the house immediately began searching the neighborhood for the children. The next door neighbor found the kids in her pool after an officer asked her for permission to search her backyard.

Officers and paramedics tried to revive the children, who were rushed to a hospital where they were pronounced dead.

He says the children were in a room with access to an open garage door they likely used to get out of the house.

Gomez says detectives remain on the scene and that the deaths appear to be an accident.
