The Indiana Department of Transportation will conduct exercises at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center this week simulating near-simultaneous earthquakes.

Area residents should anticipate an increase in vehicular traffic, especially Tuesday and Thursday, according to an INDOT news release. The training operations will end Friday.

INDOT LaPorte and Fort Wayne District crews with prior emergency clearance experience will be joined by Ohio DOT personnel responding to back-to-back earthquakes along the New Madrid and Wabash Valley fault lines.

They will be performing Level 1 and Level 2 road and bridge assessments, including four nearby bridges, in response to simulated 7.0+ earthquakes. Training operations include clearing pathways for responders.
