Documentary based on sailing trips premieres

A free outdoor viewing premiere of “Chasing Bubbles,” a documentary on the life and sailing adventures of Alex Rust, will take place at 8 p.m. today in the Rust family’s backyard at 8256 N. Base Road in Seymour.

Those attending should bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. Audio also will be broadcast on the radio for those who want to remain in their vehicles and experience the premiere like a drive-in movie.

Rust was born and raised in Seymour. He died unexpectedly May 28, 2013, in India of complications from typhoid fever. He was 28.

The film includes footage shot by Rust and his crew between 2009 and 2012 aboard his sailboat, Bubbles. It also includes interviews with Rust after the trip.

The documentary was made by Rust’s friends, Topher Cochrane, Laurie Adrianopoli and Ross Gerber.

“Chasing Bubbles” will be available for viewing online for free after the premieres today in Seymour and Chicago.
