Van B. Swindall, 82, of Bloomfield, formerly of Seymour, passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, at Lyons Health and Living Center in Lyons.

Born June 17, 1934, in Jenkins, Kentucky, he was the son of Thurman and Rosa Bell Jessee Swindall. He married Shirley Mackey on Aug. 25, 1957, in Seymour, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She survives.

Van was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked in maintenance for the Indianapolis Star & News until his retirement. He and his wife, Shirley, owned and operated Van’s Archery Shop in Greenwood, for many years. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Other survivors include a brother, Eddie Wayne Swindall Jr.; three sisters, Lillian Goldman, Patricia Ashman and Deanna Sullivan; sister-in-law, Earlene Mackey Schutte; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby Swindall, Thurman Swindall Jr. and Charles L. Swindall; and four sisters, Carolyn Paight, Katherine Shaw, Margaret Rose Tomblin and Laura Swindall.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 pm Thursday at Voss Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Blomenberg officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
