ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. — Two more sea turtles rehabilitated at the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston are again swimming in the ocean.
The aquarium announced the turtles were released late Thursday on the Isle of Palms. The turtles are Hunley, a loggerhead, and Glenn, a Kemp’s ridley sea turtle.
Hunley is an adult female and was recovered by a Department of Natural Resources research vessel in July and was suffering from injuries to her head, shell and flippers. Veterinarians think she had been both hit by boat propellers and attacked by a shark.
Glenn is a juvenile Kemp’s ridley and was brought to the aquarium in April after being accidently captured by a dredge that was dredging the Charleston Harbor shipping channel. The turtle had numerous abrasions and a bubble near its lung.
