Shade Barrett Jr., 78, of Austin, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Sep. 20, 2016, at his home, surrounded by family.

Born Dec. 5, 1937, in Perry County, Kentucky, he was the son of Shade and Lula Barrett, both of whom preceded him in death.

Shade served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967, was honorably discharged and received the National Defense Service Medal. He was a Free Mason. At the time of his death, Shade owned Barrett’s, a small engine repair company in Austin, Texas. He was previously employed by Turnco Tool & Instrument Inc. in Georgetown, Texas, and Cummins Inc. in Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Maria “Angie” Barrett; daughters, Kimberly (Larry) Hodge of Tennessee, and Connie (Mark) Johnson and Latricia “Shelly” Barrett, all of Indiana; eight grandchildren (three spouses); two stepgrandchildren (one spouse); six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mae Taylor of Tennessee; and nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and many other family members.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at Beck Funeral Home in Austin, Texas.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the time of service. Dress is casual please, since Shade preferred jeans/jean shorts and T-shirts.

Memorials may be given to donor’s choice of charity.
