ENUMCLAW, Wash. — Authorities say a man suffered serious injuries in an explosion and fire at a home about 40 miles (64 kilometers) southeast of Seattle.

KOMO-TV reports (https://goo.gl/vE3rpi ) firefighters and medics responded to the Enumclaw home Friday morning and found smoke and flames billowing from the second floor.

An injured man outside the home was treated at the scene and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The man told responders he was home alone and heard an explosion from a second-floor bedroom before flames and smoke began spreading.

Fire crews doused the blaze, which caused the most damage in that bedroom. Fire investigators have not yet determined what caused the explosion and fire.

The injured man is expected to survive.

His identity and medical condition were not immediately available.
