Jerry Verle Zirkel, 74, of Medora passed away at 11:16 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.

Born May 20, 1942, in Bedford, he was the son of Forrest Zirkel, who preceded him in death, and Mary Shelton Purvis, who survives in Medora. On Nov. 24, 1986, in Louisville, Kentucky, he married Frances Cooper Zirkel, who survives.

Jerry served in the U.S. Navy and worked for 38 years at Kieffer Paper Mill in Brownstown. He was a member of Hilltop Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Verle Zirkel Jr. of Freetown and Mark (Mary) Jackson of Versailles; two daughters, Gina Jackson of Seymour and Jennifer Nicholson and Vallonia; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald (Becky) Zirkel and Leonard Gardener, both of Medora; and two sisters, Nancy McKinney of Freetown and Patricia Hensley of Medora.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a son, James Jackson Sr.; and a grandchild.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Hague Funeral Home in Medora with Pastor Steve Muster officiating.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday.

Burial will be at Smallwood Cemetery in Brownstown.
