Owls earn big win

Seymour defeated Class 4A No. 7 New Albany 25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20 in a Hoosier Hills Conference matchup Thursday.

Addie Rudge led the Owls’ attack with 31 hits on five kills while Lauren Fleetwood had 25 with nine kills. Jessica Blevins had 11 kills.

As a team, the Owls finished 141-for-153 with 48 total kills.

Cecily Coffman had 33 digs while Rudge managed 20. Hannah Sipe totaled 35 assists.

Seymour missed three of their 95 serve attempts and recorded nine aces.

On Tuesday Seymour (15-11) will host Brownstown Central.

Tigers, Cougars run at Paoli

PAOLI

Crothersville’s Breanna Barger won the Paoli Invitational in 21:34 on Thursday.

As a team, the Tigers placed seventh with 135 points.

Piper Hensley ran a 25:48 for 18th, Hanna Wyra was 34th in 28:25, Makayla Helt clocked 28:38 for 36th and Nina Jaaworek placed 46th in 35:24.

On the boys side, the Tigers were also seventh but with 185 points.

Lane Wienhorst led the Tiers with a 19th place finish in 20:02.

Noah Kodeski was 32nd in 21:22, Chandler Niehause was right behind (35th) in 21:31, Josh Thomas timed 24:28 for 4th and Corey Schmelzle rounded-out the scoring five in 24:35 (50th).

Trinity Lutheran’s AJ Goecker, the Cougars’ lone runner, got second in the boys’ race in 17:49.
