NEWBERRY, S.C. — A pedestrian was fatally struck in Newberry County shortly after crashing his own truck.

Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton told WYFF TV ( ) that 31-year-old Brandon Golston of Seneca was walking along a highway when a sport utility vehicle struck him about 4 a.m. Saturday. He died at the scene.

Newton says Golston had crashed his truck about two-tenths of a mile away and may have been walking to get help when he was hit.

State Highway 34 was closed and traffic was detoured for several hours while troopers investigated. The collision occurred about 6 miles east of Newberry.

Lance Cpl. Tony Keller says a 20-year-old woman was driving the Mitsubishi SUV.
