Adult programs at Brownstown Public Library announced

The Adult Book Club will discuss “Slaughterhouse-Five” by Kurt Vonnegut at 11 a.m. Oct. 14 at Brownstown Public Library, 120 E. Spring St.

Kurt Vonnegut’s classic introduces readers to Billy Pilgrim, a man who becomes unstuck in time after he is abducted by aliens from the planet Tralfamadore. In a plot-scrambling display of virtuosity, readers follow Pilgrim simultaneously through all phases of his life, concentrating on his (and Vonnegut’s) experience as an American prisoner of war who witnesses the firebombing of Dresden.

The Adult Book Club provides an informal, congenial atmosphere for patrons older than 18 to share their literary interpretations of the current book selection. Karen Raymer moderates the discussion.

Everyone should read the month’s selection before the meeting but may attend even if they haven’t finished the book as long as they don’t mind hearing how the book ends. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussion, but listeners are welcome.

Light refreshments are served by individuals from the group on a volunteer basis. Extra copies of the book selection are available in advance at the library circulation desk.

Registration is required.
