NEW ORLEANS — Police say a sheriff’s employee left a car unlocked in a New Orleans neighborhood, and thieves got a gun and sheriff’s office credentials.

Police say they’re looking for two men who were shown on surveillance video at 4:45 a.m. Saturday.

The theft occurred in a residential neighborhood near City Park. New Orleans police say the car and gun belonged to a civilian employee of the sheriff’s office in neighboring Plaquemines Parish.

The news release notes, “The NOPD reminds citizens that they should not leave firearms in their vehicle and to always lock their vehicle.”
