LONG BEACH, Calif. — Authorities say three people including a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy and a suspect he was transporting were seriously injured in a head-on crash in Long Beach.

Police Lt. Erik Herzog says the deputy had made an arrest Monday night and was transporting the man to the sheriff’s Lakewood Station when a car crossed over the center median and collided with his cruiser.

City News Service reports Tuesday that the deputy, the suspect and the driver of the other car were all hospitalized in serious condition.

The collision is under investigation.
