HAMPTON, Va. — Authorities say a 91-year-old Hampton woman has been found dead inside her home with more than 50 cats nearby.

Police spokesman M.J. Bond tells news outlets that officers who had been asked to perform a welfare check on the woman found her dead Monday afternoon. No foul play is suspected.

Authorities say several cats were found dead on the property, while dozens more were found roaming between the home and outside the property, thanks to a hole which allowed the cats to come and go from the residence.

Fire officials say animal control officers have put food in the home and set up traps in an attempt to catch the cats and take them to Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter.
