PHOENIX — Arizona’s governor is ordering that flags be flown at half-staff Thursday in honor and remembrance of former Israeli President and Prime Minister Shimon Peres, who died Wednesday.

Gov. Doug Ducey’s order applies to state buildings, facilities and grounds and follows a similar one issued by President Barack Obama for federal buildings and grounds.

A statement issued by his office quotes Ducey as calling Peres a born leader, a “keeper of the peace” and somebody who loved being with people and representing his country.
