WEST FARGO, N.D. — North Dakota’s 2017 Teacher of the Year is a high school math teacher in West Fargo.

Gov. Jack Dalrymple and state Superintendent of Public Instruction Kirsten Baesler presented the honor to Nanci Dauwen during a ceremony Thursday at Sheyenne High School.

Dauwen was selected from a pool of four finalists that included Tom Kjelland, an instrumental music director with Valley City High School; Jennifer Kujanson, a second grade teacher with Ed Clapp Elementary School in Fargo; and Kristi Mahrer, an English teacher with Wahpeton High School.

Baesler says Dauwen is an exceptional teacher who “conveys sincerity and humility.”

The Department of Public Instruction administers the award program.
