SAN MARCOS, Texas — Tyler Jones passed for a school-record 475 yards and a career-high five touchdowns and Texas State beat Incarnate Word 48-17 Saturday night.

The Bobcats (2-2) were outscored 106-6 in their two previous games against then-No. 24 Arkansas and No. 6 Houston, but totaled 670 yards offense against the Cardinals (1-4), including a school-record 540 yards passing.

The Cardinals led on Broderick Reeves’ 47-yard run in the opening quarter but Jones then threw scoring passes of 11 yards to Gabe Schrade, 44 to Thurman Morbley and 16 to Eric Luna for a 21-10 halftime lead.

Jones, who finished 31-of-40 passing, added an 11-yard score to Schrade and a 46-yarder to PJ Anderson in the second half. Morbley finished with 133 yards on six catches.

Desmond Hite rushed for 107 yards on eight carries for the Cardinals, including a 71-yard score.

The game was the first meeting between schools that are a 50-mile drive apart on Interstate 35.
