FRISCO, Texas — Walker Zimmerman scored in the first half and FC Dallas beat the Los Angeles Galaxy 1-0 on Saturday night to remain atop the overall MLS standings.
FC Dallas (16-8-8) snapped a three-game winless run and leads the Supporters’ Shield race by five points. Los Angeles (11-6-15) has lost two straight after a six-game undefeated run, but clinched a playoff spot due to other results in the Western Conference.
Zimmerman was left uncovered on Mauro Diaz’s corner kick and he headed it home in the 39th minute. Zimmerman just missed a glancing header in the 25th minute and Max Urruti curled a shot off the post in the 36th.
Los Angeles had a three-on-two opportunity on a counter attack in the 18th minute but Steven Gerrard’s shot rolled just outside the far post. Landon Donovan came on as a substitute in the 57th minute for the Galaxy, which hosts FC Dallas on Oct. 23.
