Alvin T. “Al” Helton, 68, of Seymour passed away at 7:28 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at Schneck Medical Center with his family by his side.

Born March 5, 1948, in Austin, he was the son of Clifford E. and Martha White Helton. On March 31, 1967, in Seymour, he married his childhood sweetheart, Sara Jane “Janie” Sutton. They enjoyed almost 50 years together, and she survives.

Alvin was a member of Brownstown Nazarene Church and a 1966 graduate of Seymour High School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the National Rifle Association. He retired in 2002 from Cummins Engine Co. after 30 years of service. He was an excellent wood worker and also liked the outdoors. He spent many happy hours fishing and hunting; he especially liked deer hunting. Although he kept busy with his hobbies, time with family was still the most important thing to him. He truly loved the Lord and lived his life to serve Him.

Helton; grandchildren, Joshua (Leigh Ann) Cordes, Jacob Cordes, Sara (Michael) Thornton, Kyle Alka, Aaron Helton and Hannah (Sean) Tannahill; great-grandchildren, Annaleigh Cordes, Isaac Cordes, Zaiden Helton and Emeli Helton; and brothers, David (Cheryl) Helton, Paul E. Helton and Joseph L. Helton.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Naomi Smith.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Brownstown Nazarene Church with Pastor Tim Lichtley officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour.
