ALPINE, N.J. — Authorities say they’ve rescued a hiker who became lost in a rugged area of a New Jersey park.

The Record newspaper reports ( ) Palisades Interstate Parkway Police tweeted out Sunday evening that they had found the hiker, who wasn’t publicly identified, near Peanut Falls in Alpine.

The area is near a rocky section known as the Giant Steps.

Police didn’t immediately release the actual time the hiker was found. Descriptions of the hike say people should not attempt it in inclement weather and should also begin hiking early enough to complete it before dark.
