NORTH VERNON

William G. “Bill” Viers Jr., 79, of North Vernon passed away at 4:35 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at Columbus Regional Health.

Born July 3, 1937, in Lawrence County, he was the son of William G. and Betty Cook Viers Sr., both of whom preceded him in death. On Feb. 17, 1960, he married Sue Owen.

Bill served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a pipe fitter through the Local 440 Union for 50 years. He was a NASCAR fan and loved to watch Indiana University basketball.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Viers of North Vernon; daughter, Leeanna (Randall) Rose of North Vernon; sister, Jeanie Davis of Wabash; grandchildren, Ronald Robbins, Shona Johnson, James Viers, Stevi Beeman and Ethan Rose; and nine great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steven B. Viers; and sisters, Juanita Bates, Dorothy Quackenbush, Mildred Meadows, Margie Hannum and Daisy Reynolds.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Run Cemetery in Bedford.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service in North Vernon.
