FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Fort Wayne police say a young child has been shot while walking a dog, possibly in a drive-by shooting.

WANE-TV and WPTA-TV report the shooting occurred Friday morning on the city’s southeast side. The child was reported hospitalized in serious condition.

City Public Safety Director Rusty York says the child was shot in a leg. The child’s age and name was not immediately released.

WPTA reports a witness tells police the victim was walking a dog when someone drove by and fired several shots from a car.
