KALISPELL, Mont. — A Whitefish man who refuses to register as a sexual offender because he says he’s not guilty has denied writing letters threatening to kill judges, attorneys and the victim of the abuse.
Dale Michael Hanson, who served 10 years in prison after being convicted of sexual assault and deviant sexual conduct with a 5-year-old boy, entered a not guilty plea Thursday to felony intimidation.
Court records say the letters said Hanson was going to “start killing people to get public attention” in an effort to overturn his conviction. His letter listed several people he wanted to kill, including the victim’s mother.
Attorney Shawn Hinchey also entered a not guilty plea on behalf of Hanson for failure to register as a sex offender. Hanson remains jailed with his bail set at $500,000. His trial was set for January.
