PITTSBURGH — A western Pennsylvania man has been convicted of third-degree murder in the shooting death of a man who was dating his estranged wife.
Jurors in Allegheny County also convicted 27-year-old James Husok on Friday of evidence-tampering and possessing an instrument of crime.
Authorities said Husok told investigators that his estranged wife called him crying from a bar in September 2015, saying she and 27-year-old Michael Welsh had been fighting.
Officials said Husok went looking for Welsh and found him in an alley a few blocks away from his McKeesport home. He said he fired after Welsh appeared to reach for something.
Prosecutors said Husok wasn’t acting in self-defense because he left his home to seek Welsh. Defense attorney Ryan Tutera argued that his client hadn’t intended to kill the victim.
