Garden club conducts late summer meeting

All Seasons Garden Club recently met at the home of Jeanette Chastain for an end-of-summer meeting. Cohostess was Peggy Broshears.

Appetizers, dinner and a variety of desserts were served on the deck of Chastain’s home to members and guests Janet Judd, Nancy LaMarr and Darlene Sommers.

All enjoyed the late summer evening and the beauty of Chastain’s gardens. Of special interest was a veteran rose, Mr. Lincoln. A portion of the sales from this bright red hybrid tea rose goes toward the health care of veterans.

President Veronica Bowling conducted the business meeting. Shirley Lewis gave an update on the gardens at Lutheran Community Home.

Members volunteered to work in the gardens during the remaining weeks of fall. On Oct. 25, several members will clean up the gardens and prepare them for winter.

Creating a floral mesh wreath was demonstrated by Maggie Chastain. Her daughter, Kemora, showed the group how to make paper tissue flowers that she had done for her 4-H project.

Door prizes were won by Judy Bobb and Brenda Turner.
