What do you see as the primary role of coroner?
In the state of Indiana, coroners are required to become certified death investigators through such associations as the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators. This certification is obtained by attending classes conducted by the Indiana State Coroners Training Board. When the cause of death isn’t immediately obvious, a coroner must inquire and decide on a cause before the death can be certified. The coroner examines all evidence from the investigating officers and medical examiner, reviews labs and toxicology reports and, if necessary, interviews friends and family.
Why do you want to run for the position?
I was raised and have lived most of my life in Jackson County. I want to become more involved in county government and services. This position would give me the opportunity to fill that desire.
Why do you think you’re the best candidate for the job?
For the last 32 years, I’ve worked for what is now Kremers Urban Pharmaceuticals. I have spent many years in jobs here that were stressful and required someone that can look at evidence from various sources and make decisions based on that evidence. I believe this background makes me the most qualified person for this position.
