Richard W. Steward, 83, of Seymour, passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis.

Born Feb. 10, 1933, in Lebanon, Ohio, he was the son of Sylvan Russell and Helen Monce Steward. On Sept. 17, 1954, in Lebanon, Ohio, he married Doris Creech, who preceded him in death April 30, 2014.

Richard was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Seymour and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Jackson Lodge 146 Free and Accepted Masons, the Elks Club and American Legion Post 89, all of Seymour.

Survivors include his children, Kevin R. Steward and Terry L. (Troy) Nichalson; grandchildren, Tyler (Aimee) Nichalson and Taylor (Chris Barkes) Nichalson; a great-grandchild, Kasen Nichalson; four sisters, Betty Clark, Mildred Hall, Monna Williams and Anita Patterson; a brother, Sylvan Steward Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Fern Morgan and Faye Henderson; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mike Seaney officiating. A military flag presentation and taps will be conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church.
