Bonnie Jean Foist, 80, of Scipio passed away at 12:32 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at her home.

Born Nov. 19, 1935, in Louisville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of James Robert and Jennie May White Robison. She married Ronald Foist on March 3, 1956, at Bear Creek Baptist Church in Jennings County; he preceded her in death Dec. 23, 2005.

Mrs. Foist was a full-time mom. She worked in insurance and bookkeeping departments for Irwin Union Bank; as a secretary for Candlelight Homes and Reeves and as a physical therapy aid for Columbus Regional Hospital. She was a 1953 graduate of North Vernon High School and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in North Vernon, where she taught the Loyal Daughters Sunday school class. She also was a 61-year-member of North Vernon Chapter 183, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Democratic Woman’s Party where she served as secretary; she was a former member, pianist and organist for Bear Creek Baptist Church in Jennings County. Mrs. Foist enjoyed playing the organ and piano, sewing, listening to Christian music, playing euchre and Kings on the Corner and watching NASCAR. She loved peanut buster parfaits and she especially loved seeing her kids and grandkids.

Surviving are sons, Scott (Toni) Foist and Rory Foist, all of Scipio, and Tony Foist of Columbus; daughters, Marcia Thompson of Scipio and Jill (Jim) Ross of Queensville; sisters, Carolyn (Eugene) Barringer of Columbus; caregivers, Ruth Roseberry, Lindsay Gibson and Vicki Haysler, all of North Vernon; 17 grandchildren; and “a bunch” of great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Garnet Robison; two grandchildren, Cory Foist and Laura Ross; a great-grandchild, Abrams Carl Fox; and a daughter-in-law, Kim Boyd Foist.

A memorial service will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with the Bro. Ricky Persons and the Rev. Wally Glover officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday.

An Eastern Star memorial service will be conducted by members of Order of the Eastern Star North Vernon chapter 183 at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.

In keeping with her wishes, Mrs. Foist donated her body to the Anatomical Education Program of Indiana University for research.
