Marvin “Pete” Harold Pearson, 91, of Seymour passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at Covered Bridge Health Campus.

Born Dec. 7, 1924, in Kurtz, he was the son of Roy and Mabel Clair Mitchell Pearson, both of whom preceded him in death. On Dec. 7, 1946, he married Reva Mae Goen in Brownstown.

Marvin was a very proud and patriotic man. He received two Purple Hearts while serving during World War II in the United States Army. After his time in the military, he worked at Kroger for several years before owning and operating his own store, Pearson Grocery in Seymour, for many years. After that he worked for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, where he retired after several years of service. He then went to work at Schneck Medical Center and was a former fire chief of Redding Township. He was a member of the Masonic Free & Accepted Masons Lodge 146, American Legion Post 1925 and a life member of the Jackson County Pistol Club.

Besides his wife of 71 years, survivors include daughter, Amber Jo (Rick) Prather; brother, Robert Eugene (Irma) Pearson; eight grandchildren, Gabriel, Justin, Jared, Casey, Amanda, Amy, Keith and Abbey; 17 great-grandchildren, Victoria, Brianna, Leigha, Brie, Bristin, Kennedy, Chandler, Donovan, Dylan, Colton, Arianna, Mya, Emma, Ian, Nora, Ellie and Konner.

He also was preceded in death by a son, Roger “Alvie” Dale Pearson; sister, Thelma Pruitt; and six brothers, Challnor Leroy, William Lee Ray, J.C., Francis, Lawrence and Dorence Pearson.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Voss Chapel with the Rev. Bill Everhart officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans 7, all of Seymour.

Visitation will be from noon until time of service Monday.

Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 1925.
